The search for two people missing after a vehicle went off the Belleisle Bay Ferry has come to a tragic end.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located two bodies and a pickup truck submerged in Belleisle Bay on Sunday evening.
Police say the truck was found about 24 feet deep, and identified the victims as a 37-year-old man from Mill Brook, and a 49-year-old man from Whites Mountain.
Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 2 a.m. Sunday after a truck went into the water.
According to an RCMP release issued Monday afternoon, police believe the truck accelerated forward, driving up the ferry’s ramp before going into the water.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, Hampton Fire Rescue, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the Canadian Coast Guard were all involved in the search.
Autopsies will be conducted on the bodies, and the investigation is continuing.
