Elections NB has been encouraging New Brunswickers to “flatten the election curve” during this campaign.
Voting by mail or at returning offices are among the early options ahead of September 14.
The recent two days of advance polls attracted over 133,000 voters – a nearly 50 percent increase over the 2018 provincial election.
Chief electoral officer Kim Poffenroth was asked about the possibility of electronic voting.
“The technology to ensure both security of the outcome of the results and the secrecy of individual ballots is just not at a maturity level that I’m comfortable with.”
Poffenroth adds new technology couldn’t be explored right now anyway due to the snap election call and the short 28-day campaign.
