The provincial government has unveiled more details about the back-to-class plan for high school students.
A student’s schedule will depend on physical distancing in the more than 70 high schools provincewide.
Some students may attend classes daily while other students may attend every other day with a home learning component.
But deputy education minister George Daley cautions how learning at home will not be a day off.
“Students will continue to learn full-time, whether they are at home or at school, as their participation is essential in their learning. Full assessment will occur including the awarding of grades and daily attendance will be taken and tracked.”
Daley says a survey conducted in June revealed that about 80 percent of students already had access to an electronic device.
But he says there’s been a lot of interest in the laptop subsidy program with more than 5,000 parents reaching out to the education department.
He recognizes some students may not have a laptop by the first day of school but he adds at least 11,000 devices are now available in the school system as a backup.
