The People’s Alliance leader is calling for an expansion of mental health services in the province.
Kris Austin said the COVID-19 pandemic has compounded the stress on the province’s existing healthcare framework.
Austin said “there’s a huge need for augmented mental health services,” given the long wait lists for support in the province.
A release from the party cites stats from the CHIMO Help Line that calls have increased by “1,052 from March 13 to June.” The release doesn’t clarify whether those numbers indicate a year-over-year rise or an increase in average monthly users.
The People’s Alliance hasn’t yet rolled out its platform, and this release contained few specifics beside calling for increased social worker training so they can aid with the crisis.
