One new case of COVID-19 has been identified on Prince Edward Island today, bringing the total number of active cases to nine.
The province’s chief health officer says the new case is a man in his 30s who recently returned from international travel.
Dr. Heather Morrison says he is an essential worker who is not a healthcare worker.
“The gentleman is self-isolating and he has mild symptoms of COVID-19,” she says.
Dr. Morrison says the latest case is not related to the cluster nor the two at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
She says they are also increasing testing for essential workers who have travelled outside of the bubble.
“So not just a negative test before they start to work if they’ve come in from outside the bubble but testing at 0, 3 and 7 days going forward,” Morrison says.
She adds that 506 people were tested yesterday, including staff and patients at the QEH, all of which came back negative.
