Portland-Simonds MLA Trevor Holder believes the north end has more potential than any other neighbourhood in North America.
The Minister for Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour announced $60,000 in funding for The ONE Change Inc. to develop a broad community plan.
Holder says lots of great work had been done in recent years by ONE Change but we need to take that to the next level.
“We need to engage to private sector so that we get private sector investment in here. We engage the residents and the non-profits and really work on a plan with six months, two-year and five-year goals,” Holder said.

ONE Change Executive Director Tamara Kelly said the first step will be hiring a consultant to begin work on the plan and another step will be organizing engagement.
“The main part of the project should take us into late fall but the project will still continue to be ongoing because it will be community-owned,” Kelly said.
Both Kelly and Holder thinks housing developments on Victoria Street and in Crescent Valley tie in nicely showing the north end’s potential for growth.
