Nine new RCMP foals at a breeding farm in Ontario now have names.
Youth under 14 years old were asked to submit names beginning with the letter ‘S’.
Mounties said 5,300 entries were received from children across the country.
One of the foals will be named “Spring”, which was submitted by Kassandra of Riverview.
Another will be known as SHeidi, which is a combination of Super and Heidi, and it is in memory of RCMP Const. Heidi Stevenson who was killed in the Nova Scotia shooting tragedy in April.
Honouring those impacted by the tragedy will be a foal named Scotia.
The 9 winning entries are:
- SHeidi – Jade, Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, QC
- Scotia – Casey, Enfield, NS
- Spring – Kassandra, Riverview, NB
- Sosi – Logan, Ottawa, ON
- Star – Hayven, Thompson, MB
- Scout – Jake, Port au Choix, NL
- Steele – Joshua, Yellowknife, NT

Winners will receive a 2020 Musical Ride horseshoe, a picture of the horse they named and a certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner.
