A New Brunswick teacher has co-authored a new book which aims to give children and their families hope during the pandemic.
Armand Doucet, who teaches at Riverview High School, says the book titled “Hope where are you?” was inspired by a friend teaching in Italy who has suffered a lot of personal losses recently.
“He lost his father and three aunts and he wanted to share his message,” says Doucet. “One of the things that he said is that we shouldn’t lose hope and we need to continue to push on.”
Based on true experiences, the book follows six children around the world and their challenges and frustrations during the pandemic.
Doucet says one of the characters is even based on his own daughter who is very active, loves being outdoors and loves to see her friends.

He says a common theme among young people was a hopefulness to be connected.
“They’re looking forward to seeing their friends again, looking forward to seeing their families again and looking forward to being able to do different activities together.”
While the book’s focus is on gaining hope and spreading it to others, Doucet says it also touches on some realities such as how vulnerable children can be during the pandemic.
