The federal government is continuing to work around the clock to make sure our frontline workers aren’t running out of personal protective equipment.
That’s the message from Anita Anand, the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, who says that they’ve now received over 30 planeloads of PPE.
“In the past week alone, at four point eight million we have almost doubled the number of face shields delivered,” says Anand, “…and at 69.5 million we more than doubled the number of surgical masks delivered.”
She says they have orders currently in place for hundreds of millions of more pieces of PPE.
“(This) includes 500,000 3M N95 masks total for this month, with shipments arriving weekly across the Canada-U.S. border.”
She adds that these masks are on top of a larger volume of masks that 3M regularly provides to provincial and territorial governments directly.
Anand says that in addition to imported PPE, Ottawa is also making sure domestic production continues to increase.
“Made-in-Canada face shields, components for testing, and ventilators are starting to arrive and quantities will increase over time. Companies such as Medicom will be producing N95 and surgical masks right here at home.”
