Drivers in New Brunswick will now be able to renew their licences online.
When Service New Brunswick centres were shut down due to COVID-19 restrictions, driver’s licence renewals were suspended.
Although licence renewals normally require in-person visits, it was determined that any licences valid on March 16 will still be valid until June 30.
“Our teleservices agents are taking an average of 7,000 calls per week from people asking how to renew their driver’s licence,” said Service New Brunswick Minister Sherry Wilson.
“While Service New Brunswick already offers hundreds of its services online, COVID-19 has definitely increased demand, not only for those services but for new ones, as well.”
Online renewals will be offered permanently and can be done using a current driver’s licence photo for an additional four years on Class 5 licenses.
Cost of renewal will remain at $90 for a four-year renewal.
Renewal should be completed well before the expiry date, with at least two weeks allotted for processing and delivery by mail.
Service New Brunswick services are available online or via TeleServices from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1-888-762-8600.
