There will be a fourth name on the ballot for the yet-to-be-called Saint Croix byelection.
The Green Party of New Brunswick has chosen Andrew Sutton as their candidate.
“It’s an honour to be given the opportunity to represent a place I care so deeply about,” said Sutton in a news release.
“Growing up in rural New Brunswick, I’ve had a front-row seat to some of the structural issues that face our area.”
Sutton said he believes rural voices must be heard in order to solve those structural problems.
“Those on the fringes of power know that the decisions made in Fredericton are not often tailored to the needs of rural areas,” he said.
Sutton believes the path forward for Saint Croix is one that strengthens the authority of the local people to make the decisions which make sense for them, giving them the mandate to govern more of their own affairs.
Party leader David Coon said Sutton will be a real champion for the people of western Charlotte County in Fredericton.
“His deep sense of community and a keen ability to listen, make him well-suited to serve constituents wherever they call home in St. Croix, on the mainland or on Campobello Island,” said Coon in the release.
The Liberals, Progressive Conservatives and People’s Alliance have also nominated candidates for the byelection.
