A Saint John councillor said he’s heard from several residents of parking challenges in Ward 3 after bylaws were changed.
Parking in parts of the city now follows 15 days on one side and the rest of the month on the other. Before, the parking sides alternated daily.
David Hickey said he hears from residents every day and parking is one of the topics.
“We always have these issues when we’re growing into a system and we’ll figure out what the right balance for things are,” he said.
Hickey said the previous parking system was confusing, which is why the change was made.
“The city switched part of the west side, pretty well everything down from City Line, over onto the same parking regiment of the uptown,” he said.
Hickey said the system has been proven to work in the uptown area.
“I’ll certainly have a conversation with my fellow councillors and make sure that we’re making sure the voices of the residents are heard and making sure that their issues are being addressed so we can come to a common ground to this,” said Hickey.
Hickey said he can’t tell the Saint John Parking Commission what to do, but he is willing to make sure his residents are heard.
