Wind gusts over 90 kilometres per hour and nearly 50 millimetres of rain caused some damages in Saint John overnight.
Localized flooding has several roads closed in Saint John.
Ashburn Road is closed to all traffic between Foster Thurston Drive and Rothesay Road until further notice.
Most of Glen Road up to Brown Street is closed. Barricades are in place and motorists are asked to stay out of the area.
The area between Tim Street and Golden Grove Road is also closed, as is Todd Street between Simpson Drive and Rayland Street.
Rothesay Avenue and Westmorland Road are also impacted by flooding, but the city says they are currently passable.
Due to the localized flooding, Route 31 is not servicing Glen Road and Simpson Drive until further notice.
The city is also reporting fallen trees on a number of roads:
- Eldersley Avenue – Road Passable
- Dufferin Avenue – energy line and pole is broken, Saint John Energy currently on site
- Sherbrooke Street – Road Passable
- Hillcrest Road – Road Passable
- Latimore Lake Road – Road Passable
- Douglas Lake Road – Road Passable
Motorists are advised to continue to drive with caution on all roads. Impacted roads will reopen as water recedes and trees are cleared.
Saint John EMO is also responding to evacuation of two buildings.
Buildings at 301 Heather Way and 57 Ocean Court sustained significant roof damage due to the strong winds and heavy rain.
And in Sussex, several homes were voluntarily evacuated overnight due to rising water levels. No word yet on the damage caused, or how many had to be evacuated.
The town has activated its Emergency Operations Centre as a result.
