The Financial and Consumer Services Commission is reminding New Brunswickers to be careful when dealing with door-to-door salespeople.
The organization has received feedback from the public about companies using high-pressure sales tactics when offering home inspections and mould removal services.
For example, homeowners are being told that their attic is covered in mould and for safety reasons, that the situation needs to be taken care of immediately.
Spokesperson Alaina Nicholson says there is legislation to help protect New Brunswick consumers who are being solicited at their home.
In addition to high-pressure sales tactics, the FCNB advises to be cautious of the offer of free home services, inspections or testing, as these are often followed by a sales pitch.
Consumers who experience high-pressure sales tactics from a service provider are advised to call the FCNB.
