Saint John, N.B.’s south end is a bit prettier thanks to the addition of a new mural.
It was designed by newcomer Soha Soltan who came to Saint John from Egypt in March 2018 and works as a member of the Newcomer Connections youth support team at the Saint John YMCA.
“We want to tell everybody we are coming with peace as newcomers,” Soltan said.
The 32-foot mural, located on the Aquila Tours building at 10 St. James street, depicts the many cultures found in Saint John.
Nine young newcomers assisted in the painting of the mural.
Soha Soltan describes her design:
“So we took the traditional dress for each country to show from where they are. Then the background of Saint John and the title ‘Build for Community and Act for Peace,'” Solton said.
