Saint John’s Mayor is offering his congratulations to everyone who ran in the federal election.
In an interview on election night Monday, Don Darling says he knows how hard politics can be.
“One thing I’ve learned being in public life myself is that it takes a big effort. All of the candidates that ran around our region, around our country, I think they put it all on the table. Some folks win and some folks have another opportunity to try again down the road,” he said.
Darling says he’s looking forward to getting back to work with newly elected MP Wayne Long, and bringing much needed federal funds to Saint John.
“I worked well with Wayne, and I think he’s worked hard for the riding and I think that’s shown in the results for him, so we congratulate him and his team on their win,” he said.
“We work closely with elected officials at all levels of government, both provincial and federal, and it’s time to get back to work here and get going again,”
Darling also offered well wishes to Conservative candidate Rodney Weston, who lost Monday night’s race by just under 1,500 votes.
