Statistics Canada says employment in Canada rose by 54,000 jobs in September.
That pushed the unemployment rate down 0.2 percentage points to 5.5 per cent, according to the latest labour force survey.
There were more people working in health care and social assistance, as well as in accommodation and food services.
At the same time, there were declines in information, culture and recreation, and in natural resources.
New Brunswick lost 1,500 jobs in September, but the unemployment rate fell to 8.3 per cent as fewer people looked for work.
