Canada’s Conservative leader wasting no time in clarifying how he felt about his perceived main rival during last night’s federal leaders’ debate.
On the first question about representing Canada on the world stage, Andrew Scheer stared at Liberal leader Justin Trudeau when accusing him of wearing many masks.
“He puts on a middle class mask, and then raises taxes on middle class Canadians. Mr. Trudeau, you’re a phoney, you’re a fraud, and don’t deserve to govern this country.”
Later the two men addressed another issue that resonates with voters.
“(Scheer) Just because you say something over and over and over again doesn’t make it true. (Trudeau)… Oh, it would be nice if you could learn that, Mr Scheer!”
Peoples’ Party leader Maxime Bernier lectured Green Leader Elizabeth May spending to prosperity doesn’t work.
Later, the hodge podge of questions on spending and the environment continued.
NDP boss Jagmeet Singh took care of both the Conservative and Liberal leaders in one shot over the environment.
“You do not need to choose between Mr. Delay and Mr. Deny. (laughter)… There is another option out there. We’re committed to a real plan that’s going to take on the biggest polluters.”
Peoples’ Party leader Maxime Bernier put the other parties on the spot for spending too much money.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May charged after Andrew Scheer’s plan to cut foreign aid, saying cutting poverty is possible.
“(May) But not if we ever had the misfortune of having your short term, misguided, greedy and selfish policy. (Scheer) It’s not greedy to put money in the pockets of Canadians.”
There was also fireworks on questions about abortion and equalization payments among the provinces.
During a question about addressing growing income inequality, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau went after the separatist Bloc Quebecios leader.
“As a sovereigntist, always looking for opportunities to create fights between Quebec and the rest of Canada to advance your separatist agenda. Unfortunately, that’s not something Canadians want.”
Justin Trudeau also laid into Andrew Scheer for his stance on abortion, which Scheer replied it’s ok in Canada to believe pro-life.
