A number of recent suicides in Saint John has prompted an outpouring of support from the community.
Community members have organized an event called Bridge of Hope to bring mental health issues to light.
Organizer Jessica Holly says they will link arms, light candles and lay flowers, and then head to Wolastoq Park to hear stories.
Holly says the mental health system in the province is not broken, it just needs help.
“I believe that it is overwhelmed and the only way to help that is for the community to come together and for us to do our part,” stated Holly.
Late last week, a series of posters appeared on the bridge with messages of hope.
Holly says they want to ensure the event is safe for everyone so participants are asked to keep a few things in mind.
“We are hoping to keep everyone on the sidewalks so everybody is safe and we don’t disrupt traffic,” she said.
“There are going to be a lot of people so we are hoping to make a human barrier of hope on that bridge and lock arms when we light the candles.”
