The Conservative candidate for the riding of Saint John-Rothesay is a familiar face — that is because he used to be the MP for the riding.
Rodney Weston says as he goes door-to-door, he is hearing from a lot of people that they have been let down by the lack of representation by the Liberals, especially after they took all 32 seats in Atlantic Canada in the last election.
“There was a lot of hope, there was a lot of optimism in the air with the potential that we had here. It hasn’t been realized; in fact, it has fizzled,” stated Weston.
Weston says he is also hearing many people are very upset with the demise of the Energy East pipeline project.
“We could taste it and it wasn’t by accident that it slipped away. I firmly believe that this government was opposed to that pipeline and they put in place the mechanisms for it to fail, I seriously do,” said Weston.
Weston also says the recent scandals and ethics issues involving Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are a big topic door-to-door.
“The lack of trust that people have in this prime minister, in this government, I guess you would want to say that this is the straw that broke the camel’s back. People want to see Justin Trudeau taken out of office and responsible government returned,” Weston said.
