The federal Conservatives are pouncing on what they say is Environment Minister Catherine McKenna admitting taxes will go up under the federal carbon tax.
Pierre Poilievre noted this is in contradiction to the Liberals saying taxes won’t go up.
“It means thousands of dollars in higher costs for gas, heat and groceries. It means Liberals will raise taxes to fund more out of control spending.”
But McKenna says there is no intention to increase the carbon tax after 2022.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives are disputing claims their climate change plan will cause emissions will rise by 100 megatonnes by 2030.
The MP pointed out his party plans to require companies which pollute to invest in green technology, among other ideas.
“We also plan a tax reduction for income from green patented technology. Beyond that, we’re going to put an end to the disgusting practice of cities pouring raw sewage into our lakes, oceans and rivers.”
