As we get closer to October’s federal election, the head of the Conservatives promises to help new parents save money.
Andrew Scheer says if he is elected, he will axe the federal income tax from parental benefits.
He says it would be done through a 15 per cent tax credit, working out to $4,000 for someone who makes $50,000 a year.
It would be applied to income from the Employment Insurance maternity and paternal benefit programs.
