Auditor General Kim MacPherson has taken the previous Liberal government to task over the amount of highway repair maintenance work it had done by outside sources.
In her report released on Tuesday, she stated what services the Gallant government had outsourced.
“There is a fair amount of outsourcing activities with respect to paving, grading, line painting and brush cutting,” stated MacPherson.
In recent years government spent $300 million per year for repairs to roads and bridges.
MacPherson says “The dollar value has been running in the range of $200 million per year, this is the total of construction tenders awarded by DTI in each of these years.”
In her recommendations MacPherson stated “Given the existing state of our provincial infrastructure and the challenges associated with and ageing highway network it’s essential the department maximizes ever dollar in the most efficient and effective manner.”
