The Liberals continued their attacks on the Higgs governments decision to have an exemption of the fracking moratorium in the Sussex region, without consulting with First Nations before hand.
MLA Lisa Harris chastised the Premier and Peoples Alliance on the issue in the Legislature on Friday.
“That just goes to show that once again that this Higgs-Alliance Government just doesn’t care about anyone and they are ready to make any secret deal with no clear timelines, milestones just so they can pretend to help the bottom line,” stated Harris.
Sussex-Fundy-St. Martin’s MLA Bruce Northup, applauded the fracking exemption.
“Putting our New Brunswick natural gas to work for the people of our province is the right decision Mr. Speaker, New Brunswick Natural Gas can provide a reliable energy source for many, many years to come,” stated Northrup.
Green Party leader David Coon was not too impressed with the exemption decision.
“The Premier is staying the course to add even more fossil fuel production with the fracking of shale gas, it needs to stay where it is Mr. Speaker, safely bound up in the shale rock deep underground where it can do no harm,” Coon stated.
Earlier in the week the Chiefs of nine Mi’kmaq communities stated they had been “blind-sided” by the government’s move.
