The United States and Canada have finally decided to end the trade spat over steel and aluminum by lifting the tariffs they placed on each other.
Patrick Colford of the NB Federation of Labour says it’s about time.
“It’s good news for all workers, not just in New Brunswick but across Canada. It restores stability and predictability to our economy and to workers’ lives, for almost a year the tariffs had a damaging impact on the industry and the people who work hard to make that industry thrive,” stated Colford.
Ron Marcolin, with the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters said the imposed tariffs weren’t a good thing for either country.
“They heard the political pressure on both sides of the border, so this is clearly hurting their industry, clearly hurting our industry it was a lose-lose right from the start,” stated Marcolin.
Jobs were lost and layoffs occurred while prices of industrial equipment soared, according to Marcolin.
