The contraband tobacco unit in New Brunswick is no more and that has riled a former Fredericton cop now the MLA For Fredericton-North.
Stephen Horsman went after Public Safety Minister Carl Urquhart, a former police officer himself, about why the unit was disbanded.
“Illicit contraband is a threat to New Brunswickers, our young people and it also undermines our economy
this provinces loses over $13 million a year through the sale of contraband tobacco products.” Horsman stated.
“The cost of the unit was under $1,000,000 to save $13,000,000, makes pretty good sense,” Horsman said.
Minister Urquhuart replied to his question.
“I feel that department had to be put into other sections and to be moved forward and we could better attack the problems by increasing other sections,”stated Urquhart
Horsman countered by saying organized crime runs illegal tobacco in the province by paraphrasing the Premier’s favourite line.
“Yes, New Brunswick is open for business, criminal business,” stated Horsman.
