The race for the vacant Ward 3 council seat in Saint John just got a bit tighter.
David Hickey has become the third person to throw his hat into the ring.
Hickey says he wants to build a platform reflecting the issues which matter to people the most.
“Build a vision that gets serious about debt, that focuses on growth while understanding its impact on our neighbourhoods, I’d say one that addresses climate change, one that builds a plan around social inclusion, poverty and homelessness,” said Hickey.
“I know the community, I’ve been around the community for a long time, and I really want to build a platform that reflects the issues that matter to people the most.”

Hickey noted Ward 3 is home to three of the city’s five so-called priority neighbourhoods.
He thinks being a young person will give him an advantage in the race.
“It brings a new perspective to the table, it says that young people are listening to council, young people are impacted by the decisions that council makes, and let’s make sure this huge portion of the population is included at the table,” he said.
The Ward 3 council seat was left vacant after Gerry Lowe was elected MLA for Saint John Harbour in last fall’s provincial election. The byelection will take place on May 6.
