Four different types of Beaujolais Nouveau will be available in New Brunswick for the international launch date today…
Sommelier Bill Vance says they are always released on the same day each year, which is a bit of a marketing genius by George Duboeuf, who is the largest Producer of Beaujolais. He thought it would be a great idea to sell some wine, and help those who may have had a tough year, to help generate cash flow, “But in order to do it around the world, he realized that you can’t have people in France celebrating one day and people in New York on another. So, he got all of the growers together and rather than shipping by a large ship going across the Atlantic, they’ll be flying this stuff in to go all around the world.”
The selection will be available at all 44 NB Liquor corporate stores, but in a limited supply. Vance says, “They’ll have a few different quality levels of a basic Beaujolais and a Beaujolais village which is one step up. They’ll have different price points. They tend to be in the $14 to $17 range. If you want to taste something that’s a first time, and first time through and know that you will be tasting it at the same time as the wealthiest person in New York or Japan, it kind of neat to do that. It’s one thing, one wine that kind of brings us all onto an equal level.”
