Not a lot of success came out of the health ministers meeting this with Jane Philpott but Victor Boudreau remains hopeful.
The Provincial Health Minister Victor Boudreau says changes leftover by the Harper government are costly to New Brunswick and in other provinces as well.
One is changing the health transfer to a per capita basis which costs this province $18 million over the last two years and Boudreau says the combined changes will cost us a lot.
Another change for this coming fiscal year is the 6 per cent annual increase on transfers and the Harper Tories were going to limit it to 3 per cent and so far the Trudeau government is maintaining that position.
Boudreau says these two changes combined over a over a decade would see the province get $714 million dollars less for healthcare which is concerning and Boudreau adds New Brunswick is not the only province to be making that argument.
He says they tried to make their case for increased funding but Minister Philpott wasn’t able to give a commitment but he thinks she listened and we’ll speak to her federal colleagues and see what can be done to increase healthcare transfers.
