Flu season is back once again and the New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association is urging everyone to get a flu shot even if you consider yourself healthy.
During the last flu season, 1220 cases were reported in the province of which 250 people had to be hospitalized and 20 people died.
Association executive director Paul Blanchard says the flu virus changes every year and so does the flu vaccine.
“Health Canada is part of this group. They evaluate what strains are dominate in those parts of the world and try to prepare a flu vaccine that meets the pervasive strain,” he notes.
Blanchard notes getting a flu shot has become more accessible now that most pharmacies in the province offer it.
The flu shot is available free of charge to vulnerable groups such as seniors, children and anyone with chronic health conditions.
