The number of people in the province with three or more chronic health conditions is on the rise when compared to numbers in 2011.
CEO of the New Brunswick Health Council Stephane Robichaud says an aging population isn’t the only factor.
He says the rise is related to behaviours and calls some of the chronic health conditions preventable.
Robichaud says obesity is something New Brunswick is struggling with and says the proportion of unhealthy weight is higher in children in kindergarten to grade five, when compared to students in grade six to grade 12.
He says lung diseases related to smoking is another factor behind the rise of chronic diseases in the province.
Robichaud says 6 out of 10 people with three or more chronic health conditions in New Brunswick are under the age of 65.
