Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart is putting forward a motion to the House of Commons to come up with ideas to increase the population in Atlantic Canada.
Lockhart says immigration on its own isn’t the answer to everything.
She says we also need to look at training and growing the economy.
Lockhart is concerned the decline of the population will cause a gap in filling positions in the long term.
She says immigration does improve economic growth because when people pick up and move to another country they will also invest, and bring a family with them that are consumers.
Lockhart says the purpose of this motion is to have the standing committee to conduct a study on ways on how to close that gap.
