The Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department is investigating after garbage fires at the high school this morning which forced the evacuation of students and the early closure of the school for the day.
KV Fire Chief Bill Ireland tells us that crews found at least two garbage cans in two separate bathrooms in Kennebecasis Valley high school had been lit on fire, but that those fires had been extinguished.
“The activation of the fire alarm actually initiated the evacuation of the building,” Chief Ireland says. “And most of the students were outside by the time we arrived on scene.”
Ventilation is taking place and the school board is bringing in extra fans to help with that.
The Chief says it’s too early right now to talk about a cause.
Dismissal took place for the students from the Kennebecasis Valley Baptist Church and crews left that location at noon.
