The New Brunswick Medical Society is setting the ambitious goal of making this province one of the top three healthiest in Canada in the next decade.
NBMS CEO Anthony Knight says this goal is definitely achievable.
“We’re at the bottom of the pack in the country, but we’re not that far off from being in the top three and we think with a committed effort, with focused attention on being healthier and being more active, can make a real difference,” says Knight.
He says doctors are coming together to come up with ways to encourage healthier lifestyles.
“And that can include things such as caloric labeling, maybe a tax on sugared drinks, like soda and juice, and also making community facilities more accessible by having them open on nights and weekends,” says Knight.
He adds, they launched a social media campaign called #Top3In10.

“We will be giving recommendations to government in the coming months, following our social media campaign to encourage New Brunswickers to give us 1000 ideas on how they can improve their own healthy choices in their community,” says Knight.
