Free parking in the city’s south end is about to become a thing of the past.
Common Council voted unanimously to pass the third and final reading of the parking bylaw, which will ultimately crack down on drivers who park their car for the day in the south end.
Mayor Don Darling says the bylaw will go into effect in about four weeks.
He says he’s received a lot of feedback from residents of the south end, including one woman who told him that people were knocking on her door at 7 o’clock in the morning asking her when she planned on leaving.
Darling says people can still park in the south end for free, but only for two hours.
He says a communications plan will be put in place in the near future to give people a better idea of where else they can park in the city.
