Canadians made 8.2 million overnight trips out of the country during the first three months of 2016.
The report from Statistics Canada says those trips totalled $11 billion in spending.
Of those trips, 4.4 million were to the United States, accounting for $4.9 billion.
In return, Americans spent $1.2 billion over 1.9 million trips to Canada over the same three month period.
Additionally, overseas residents made 800,000 trips to Canada totalling $1.3 billion.
