A sad day in Norton as a major fire destroyed one of the village’s biggest employers.
The fire at Hall Brothers Enterprises began before 5 a.m. this morning.
The family-owned business sells tractors and other farm equipment.
In a statement on their Facebook page, Hall Brothers thanks the firefighters who came from multiple departments to help battle the fire.
Norton Mayor Julie Booth tells us she learned about the fire on Facebook.
“There just salt of the earth people. It’s devastating. Just devastating for the Halls and for the Village of Norton.” Booth says.
“If you drove by now, the only thing left is the steel frame. I don’t know how many tractors and stuff got stored but, the building is gone.”
Incredibly, the family ownership behind the Hall Brothers plans to be up and running in some way early next week.
Mayor Booth believes it’s possible telling us they own a smaller building that used to be the village’s fire hall and they could use it temporarily.
40 to 50 firefighters battled the Hall Brothers fire in Norton.
Norton Fire Chief Bill Palmer tells us they managed to save quite a bit of equipment.
“A tractor was brought out, a side by side and snowblowers. We managed to get those out before everything was a total loss. They still lost a couple of pieces of machinery.” Palmer says.
Palmer says they stretched 2500 feet of fire hose from the river to the scene and blocked the road which is why both the daycare and school had to close for the day.
Fire investigators are still looking into the cause.
