A 65 year-old Halifax man will spend the next two years in federal prison for his role in sexually assaulting a teenage boy in Nova Scotia.
In March, John Leonard MacKean was found guilty of sexual assault and communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a minor.
The sentence today, in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Bridgewater, was in relation to the case where a teenager was kidnapped, chained to a bed and sexually assaulted for more than a week at a remote cabin more than two years ago in Lunenburg County.
Crown Lawyer Lloyd Tancock was pleased with the sentence but admits the facts surrounding the entire incident are very disturbing. He told reporters it’s not common to hear these stories in remote, rural areas. MacKean has also been ordered to serve three years of probation when he is released from jail. He will need to provide a DNA sample, will be listed in the sex offender registry for the rest of his life and is prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years.
Another man involved in the incident was was sentenced to 11 years in prison last year. David James LeBlanc had been charged with to kidnapping, forcible confinement and sexual assault.
