The social movement against the proposed sale of NB Power to Hydro Quebec by the provincial Liberal Government at the time under then Premier Shawn Graham has been chronicled in a documentary by. filmmaker Jon Mann.
Mann was at university when all that was going on and wrote a paper about the proposed sale which he tells CHSJ News would have been historic. He says the people he interviewed, who were opposed, said they didn’t like the way the deal seemingly was put together behind closed doors without public consultation which struck them as being profoundly undemocratic.
The key figures who were speaking out in favour of the deal at the time declined to be interviewed.
Mann says the opposition to the NB POwer sale on Facebook had 32 thousand members which he describes as phenomenal in a province the size of New Brunswick.
The film will be screened in Fredericton tomorrow afternoon at 1 in the Regent Mall.
