Heavily armed police carried out an extensive search of the area around School Avenue in Rothesay, outside Saint John, where Fairvale Elementary School is located after a police officer saw what appeared to be a man armed with a rifle that had a scope on it late Saturday afternoon.
The search was centred in woods that divide two residential neighbourhoods.
In the end, no one was found and police could not confirm the sighting. They cleared the area around 9:30 Saturday night and tell us there was no lockdown but people who did venture outside when all this was going on were told to get back in their homes.
