A big change will be coming this September at the Regional Hospital when the no smoking policy for both patients and staff members goes into effect.
The Vice-President of Quality and Patient Centred Care at Horizon Health, Margaret Melanson says those people seen smoking after the policy is in force will be gently reminded to butt out.
Staff members, who smoke, will be given the nicotine replacement patch and gum at not cost to them for 12 weeks if they wish.
It’s estimated this could cost as much as 60 thousand dollars at the Regional Hospital.
