Mayor Mel Norton says with passage of the city’s 2016 budget, the pain was not spread evenly and there was a lack of flexibility during the deliberations with some councillors digging their heels in and refusing to budge.
As an example, Norton says one of the city’s economic development agencies won’t get as much money as last year. The Mayor spoke out against any reduction in funding for economic development.
Norton says he would have accepted the first draft budget that contained a 270 thousand dollar cut for the police department and 90 thousand reduction for fire.
