With help from Emera New Brunswick, the Saint John Fire Department has a new tool for teaching fire prevention and safety to children.
Students got a demonstration in the Fire Safety House today which included simulated smoke, a hot door and escaping through a bedroom window by ladder.
Lily Drew is a Grade 3 student at Champlain Heights School and she was asked what she learned about fire safety.
She says she learned how to get help from the fire chief and how to react if she saw a fire.
Resource Teacher Ellen Murphy says kids have a lot of anxiety about fire so this of experience is invaluable.
Fire Chief Kevin Clifford tells us their previous trailers were retrofits so this is the first time they had one specially designed to demonstrate fire safety for grade 3 and 4 students.
