Global experts in the field of nuclear energy from around the world are in the city for the Canadian Nuclear Society’s annual conference. The discussions include decommissioning of nuclear power plants and what to do with the spent radioactive fuel so it is disposed of safely.
Gaetan Thomas of NB Power says any talk about the decommissioning of Point Lepreau is far off because it’s expected to be in service for another 25 to 30 years at least and extending its life beyond that point is not out of the realm of possibility.
Thomas describes nuclear as a very complex field so this is a good opportunity for the people at NB Power to get new ideas from around the world.
