Out of sight. Out of mind………That’s what the New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity fears since there was no mention at all of pay equity in the Liberal Government’s Speech from the Throne this week.
The Coalition’s Executive-Director Johanne Perron says women are worried about that and the prospect of government services being privatised with reduced pay for women as a result.
Perron says it happened already to the literacy teachers. She says they were working in the community colleges making over 20 dollars an hour and got shifted over to the non-profits and had their pay cut almost in half.
Perron says the Liberals, during the last provincial election campaign, promised to fully implement the Pay Equity Act of 2009.
She would like to see a requirement for companies with 50 or more employees that want to transact business with the province to have pay equity plans in place.
