John Wallace says there has been a complete denigration of the senate and a lack of confidence from the public in the institution.

He says the issue that is really the problem goes back to the primary role of the Senate which is to do legislative review of bills that come from the House of Commons.
He says Sir John A. MacDonald wanted the Senate to be independent and he feels political partisanship has interfered with that role.
