If you want to make the trek from Deer Island to Eastport, Maine, you won’t be able to do it by ferry this summer and that means an additional 80 kilometers of driving.
The provincial government approached East Coast Ferries about running a ferry on the run along the Saint John River from Kennebecasis Island to Summerville starting in the first week of June to the beginning of November.
The “Fundy Trail” which normally makes the run to Eastport will be used instead on the Kennebecasis Island run. The province has been experiencing some maintenance problems with its ferries but the Eastport ferry will be back in 2016.
