Premier Brian Gallant coming to the city to talk about poverty at a luncheon organised by the Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative.
This follows release of figures by the Human Development Council showing the poverty rate in Ward 3 which encompasses the south end, lower west side and the area around Waterloo Street is over 31 per cent with a child poverty rate of 40 percent.
Saint John High teacher Barry Ogden, who helps out Romero House and the Saint John Community Food Basket, says times are getter tougher. He has been told by the people at Romero House that new faces are showing up looking for help.
Ogden adds Romero House is in need of sneakers for young people and children’s books.
