A lot of people like living next to the water but they should be aware of the potential for slope failure. That warning from Quispamsis town engineer Gary Losier.
He says the slope your house is on can weaken when water gets into the soil turning it to mud if you’re not careful so the first thing you should do is consult with a professional engineer who will analyse the soil and determine if it is stable enough to build on.
Losier says you should not dig into the side of a slope to get bigger beach space, don’t remove vegetation from the slope because trees and plants stabalise the soil with their root systems and don’t add weight to the top of the slope because that can make it more prone to failure.
