Premier Brian Gallant is in Saint John for a job creation announcement this morning and will be attending the swearing in of the new Common Council with newly elected Mayor Don Darling. This afternoon, the Premier will be at Taste of Egypt on King Street and we are told cooking with one of the chefs who just happens to be the first Syrian government sponsored refugee to make Saint John home.
It’s no secret the relationship between outgoing Mayor Mel Norton and Provincial Economic Development Minister Rick Doucet was frosty with the two clashing over provincial funding for the city market. Former Mayor Shirley McAlary will replace Shelley Rinehart as Deputy Mayor.
The new town council in Quispamsis with newly elected Mayor Gary Clark will also be sworn in tonight as will the new council in Grand Bay-Westfield with long serving Mayor Grace Losier.
The new Rothesay Town Council with newly elected Mayor Dr. Nancy Grant will be sworn in tomorrow night.
